Bhimashankar is a paradise for nature lovers, trekkers, jungle lovers and bird watchers. It is recommended to visit the place for at least 2/3 days. The best seasons to go to Bhimashankar are monsoon and winter. There is a beautiful temple of Lord Shiva which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. The beautiful stone temple around 3296 feet high and the feeling of being lost in wilderness has made Bhimashankar a major trekking destination. The area is surrounded by lofty peaks, dense forests and is also the source of River Bhima. There is also Bhimashankar Sanctuary where variety of birds, flowers and animals can be seen.


 

Malshej Ghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range bordering between Thane and Pune district of Maharashtra, India. The site is nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghats. The best time to visit is between August and February. At this time of the year, the hills are clothed in a soothing shade of mint green and the weather is cool during the monsoons. Known for its misty tops and ice cold cascades at this time of the year, the site is a very popular weekend getaway for most of the city's residents at that time of the year. It has got number of waterfalls and the greenery is just awesome during the monsoons.


Peth (also called Kotligad or Kothligad or Kothaligad) is a small Fort (1500ft.) is situated to the east of Karjat in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. It is known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base.There is a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like tunnel (see image) to the top of the fort. This pinnacle is carved from inside forming a staircase reaching the top.


 


Siddhagad fort is a good monsoon trek in the Sahyadris. Trek to the fort takes you through a forest plateau called as Siddhagad Machi. From Siddhagad Machi you trek towards Balekilla. During Shivaji's time all major forts had villages on their top, which used to make fort independent during wars. Siddhagadwadi is a village which still exists on the fort. Some nearby treks are Gorakhgad, Machhindragad and Dhamdhamia. 


 

Matheran is a city and a Hill Station municipal council in Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a hill station in Karjat Tahsil and is also the smallest hill station in India. It is located on the Western Ghats range at an elevation of around 800 m (2,625 feet) above sea level. It is located around 90 km from Mumbai, and 120 km from Pune. Matheran is an eco-sensitive region, declared by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India. It is one of the few places in the world where vehicles are not allowed, which makes the place different from others.

 

 

 

Harishchandragad is a hill fort in the Ahmednagar region of India. Its history is linked with that of Malshej Ghat, and it has played a major role in guarding and controlling the surrounding region. The most interesting point on this fort is the Konkankada cliff, which has always fascinated many people for years. The cliff faces west and looks down upon the Konkan. From here, one can have a breathtaking view of the surrounding region and the setting sun. This cliff is not just vertical, it is an overhang, almost like a cobra's hood.


 

 

Naneghat  is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range near Junnar in Pune district of Maharashtra, India. During the reign of the Satavahana, the pass was extensively used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. The name NaneGhat is given because this path was used as a tollbooth to collect toll from traders crossing the hills. A number of ancient man-made caves have been crafted in the vicinity of the pass. The nearest inhabited area on the Konkan side is Vaishakhare 14 km (9 mi), and the village of Ghatghar 6 km (4 mi) on the plateau side.

 


Barvi Dam is 18 km from Badlapur and about 15 kms from our site. Barvi dam provides water to Navi Mumbai and Thane. The dam is surrounded by evergreen hills and dense forest. It is a popular recreation spot. Barvi Dam is a popular picnic spot.  During monsoon the dam and surroundings are very scenic and often visited by the city tourists.
